DESCRIPTION:June 12 2024 2:00 ET\nPresenter: Shannon Brown\, LPC\nLearn more and register \n\nThere is a need for staff to be aware of their own biases when providing care to Veterans\, especially those at risk for suicide. As suicide rates remain high\, engaging in mental health care can be a protective factor for these Veterans. By learning the cultural characteristics to consider\, staff can gain competency and skills in providing inclusive\, mindful\, and equitable care for those they serve. \n\nFollowing this live lecture\, participants will be able to: \n\nSummarize the impact of biases on patient care.\nDescribe the prevalence of suicide amongst diverse populations\nIdentify considerations in clinical care for diverse populations\n\nShannon Brown\, LPC\nShannon Brown is a Licensed Mental Health Therapist and has been a Suicide Prevention Coordinator at the Erie\, PA\, Medical Center for the last seven years. She’s a member of the Erie VAMC Diversity and Inclusion Committee and on the subject matter expert panel for the Office of Mental Health and Suicide Prevention (OMHSP) Diversity\, Equity\, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee. She possesses extensive expertise in public speaking and presenting on topics related to mental health\, suicide prevention\, and culture.
