DESCRIPTION:The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) are pleased to announce the creation of three communities of practice\, one for each priority area of the Governor’s and Mayor’s Challenges: \n\n\nIdentifying SMVF and Screening for Suicide Risk;\nPromoting Connectedness and Improving Care Transitions; and\nIncreasing Lethal Means Safety and Safety Planning.\n\n\nPriority Group 2: Connectedness & Care Transitions \n\nUpcoming Calls (Second Wednesday of the Month): \n\n\nNovember 10\, 2021\, 1:00–2:00 p.m. ET\nDecember 8\, 2021\, 1:00–2:00 p.m. ET\n\n\n\nThe practice groups meet monthly. Each 1-hour Zoom meeting will feature a Team Spotlight highlighting the work of one team or small group discussion centered on a topical theme. All priority area workgroup leaders and members are invited to register for one or more of the practice groups. Once registered\, calendar invitations will be sent on a reoccurring monthly basis. \n\nObjectives \n\nStrengthen technical assistance support for workgroup leaders and members\nIncrease knowledge about suicide prevention best practices related to each specific priority area\nFacilitate team-to-team sharing of insights and suicide prevention strategies\nInspire practice improvement ideas and innovations across teams

SUMMARY:Supporting Our Military and Veteran Caregivers
DESCRIPTION:Caregiving for men and women who served in our military is a critical component of a Veteran’s healthcare plan. Being a military or Veteran family caregiver can be one of the most important and challenging roles family members and loved ones will ever have. Challenges for caregivers include behavioral health risks\, risk of social isolation\, effective communication between caregivers and their children\, financial stability\, and taking time off from one’s job. Despite where one is in the journey\, establishing an effective road map can bridge some of those challenges. \n\n\nThis 1.5-hour webinar will provide a framework for understanding systems of care and support and the impact a Veteran’s illness or challenges can have on a family. We will discuss strategies for helping Veterans obtain the care they deserve as well as strategies for caregiver self-care.
