SUMMARY:NIH Pathways to Prevention Workshop: Improving Rural Health
DESCRIPTION:NIH Pathways to Prevention Workshop: Improving Rural Health Through Telehealth-Guided Provider-to-Provider Communication October 12–14\, 2021 Online Only Register to Attend: https://prevention.nih.gov/P2P-RuralHealth \n\n\nAbout one-fifth of all the people in the United States live in rural areas\, which have higher mortality rates\, a higher prevalence of diseases\, and lower life expectancy than urban areas. Telehealth-guided collaboration between care providers has the potential to increase access to services and improve health outcomes in rural communities. However\, more research is needed to better understand how provider-to-provider telehealth affects rural patients\, populations\, health care providers\, and payers. Workshop speakers will identify those research gaps and explore barriers to and facilitators of successful and sustainable implementation of provider-to-provider telehealth in rural settings. \n\n\nAttendees will have opportunities to submit questions and comments during discussion periods. After weighing the evidence\, an independent panel will prepare a report that summarizes the workshop and identifies future research priorities. \n\n\nThe workshop is co-sponsored by the NIH Office of Disease Prevention (ODP); National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences; National Heart\, Lung\, and Blood Institute; Health Resources & Services Administration; and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. \n\n\nREGISTER ONLINE: \n\n\nThe workshop is free and open to the public. Please help us share this information widely. \n\n\nRegistration is required. You must register separately for each day you plan to attend in order to receive a unique meeting link for that specific day. To register\, visit https://prevention.nih.gov/P2P-RuralHealth. \n\n\nACCOMMODATIONS: \n\n\nThis workshop will be captioned in real-time. Individuals who require reasonable accommodation to participate in this event should contact the ODP at NIHP2P@mail.nih.gov\, and/or the Federal Relay (1-800-877-8339).

SUMMARY:Employing Treatment and Environmental Interventions to Support Rural Populations
DESCRIPTION:Employing Treatment and Environmental Interventions to Support Rural Populations\n\nHosted By: Mountain Plains MHTTC\nLiving in rural and remote settings is often a conscious choice made by people for a variety of reasons. However\, difficulties can arise when persons living in rural settings begin experiencing mental health challenges. These challenges can be compounded by limited social supports or difficulty engaging in social interactions. Join Ken Flanagan\, PhD\, to learn how treatment and environmental interventions can support the mental health and wellness of persons in rural and remote settings. This session will provide a framework for increasing social connections and interactions for persons in rural communities and supporting treatment interventions. \nAddressing Rural Co-Morbidities of Mental Health and Social Conditions\nIndividuals living in rural communities face unique challenges when attempting to access care for mental health concerns. The “three A’s” of rural treatment barriers often reference the difficulty of finding accessible\, affordable\, and acceptable care for persons in remote and rural settings. Co-morbid mental health and social conditions increase the complexity of treatment and make delivering evidence-based care challenging for mental health providers of all professions. This series will review practices that providers can utilize to support rural populations presenting with a variety of co-morbid conditions. \nPart One: Employing Treatment and Environmental Interventions to Support Rural Populations \nOctober 5\, 2021\nLearn more and register \nPart Two: Supporting Rural Aging Populations \nOctober 12\, 2021\nLearn more and register \nPart Three: Using Faith Supports to Increase Mental Health in Rural Communities \nOctober 19\, 2021\nLearn more and register
