Where to start?

We understand: figuring out “where to start” educating your community about Veteran suicide prevention is difficult. That’s why we created the toolkit, so communities can quickly identify four discrete action steps they can take in their community.

What is it?

NW PA Counties graphicIn response to community requests, we developed this community toolkit for anyone to use to help engage your regional leaders and organizations and spread the word about the work we are doing. The toolkit contains information about our no-cost training and education programs, services available to Veterans and their families throughout the 19-county region, tips for promoting social connectedness and recognizing the signs of a mental health crisis, and strategies for safe storage of potentially lethal means, such as prescription medications and firearms.

All materials are free to share. Please reach out to us if you have any questions!

The Resilient Veteran Community Toolkit

Different versions of the suicide prevention toolkit are available to suit different uses and needs. Versions that include the “county services index” include a resource directory with contact information of support resources in our county catchment areas related to support services. These include resources for crisis, Veteran-specific, shelter, food, substance use recovery, behavioral health, and physical health.

Please contact us with if you notice any corrections and/or additions.

friends standing togetherWhether you identify as a healthcare provider, community organization, or Veteran, there are several opportunities through the NW PA Veteran Suicide Prevention Program and PERU to connect to resources, participate in educational training, and promote harm reduction strategies. We are actively recruiting healthcare and community partners to work with us in meeting our goals and objectives. To learn more, visit the program website at theresilientveteran.org.
